1. How many people in your organisation are typically involved in e-learning course creation?
30 - Next year we will increase this number significantly to include regional design centres.
2. What processes do you use to enable them to work together effectively?
We have developed a 4-hour training session for new authors. We recommend that our developers communicate regularly (phone/face-to-face), use GoToMeeting to collaborate and share best practice, and follow the Mohive workflow.
3. How long have you been creating courses using Mohive?
Just over 1 year.
4. What software did you use previously to Mohive?
Seminar from Information Transfer.
5. What type of courses do you develop?
We have a wide breath of subject matter including business-specific topics, soft skills and, very importantly, health & safety.
6. And how long are the courses you develop?
They are designed to fit into our learners’ busy schedules so they vary from between 30 and 90 minutes in length.
7. How much time does an average course take to create from when you start work to uploading into the LMS?
It is very quick: only 8 to 12 weeks depending on the size and the content of the course.
8. How long does each stage in the development process take to complete?
We use the Mohive built-in workflow to manage the course creation and, as a general indication, this is a breakdown of time spent at each stage of the creation process:
Planning stage: 2 weeks
Authoring stage: 4 to 8 weeks
Quality Assurance & Review: 4 weeks
Publish / Test: 1 day
9. What aspect of the Mohive system do you find most helpful?
The Quality Assurance stage, because the built-in live comments feature helps us immensely. Prior to Mohive, the process of gathering feedback and collating that feedback was very manual and prone to mistakes.
10. Which Mohive templates do you find particularly effective for the type of courses you create and what features make them your preferred choice?
A large number of our courses are very text-based and the Info template gives us the ability to add large blocks of text to our course.
The new video templates are very exciting - we will begin using them very soon.
11. What tip have you discovered that you would like to share with other Mohive users?
Generally, we do not use the flexi template very often as it tends to take some time to position the text boxes correctly as the template gives you the ability to move these boxes in quiet small increments and therefore it is possible to get a slight variation between one slide and another.
If you are experiencing this, a quick fix is to just copy and past the first flexi template so that you have two identical versions of the template and then open the second template and update it with new content. And you can continue this process for copying, pasting and updating again and again to ensure there is not slight variation in layouts.
