In this edition we explore the practical side of getting the most out the of the Classic MC template and explore the innovative learning techniques that bring a company’s culture alive for the employees that use e-learning.

Storytelling with the Mohive’s classic Multiple Choice Template

One of our most popular templates is the classic MC (Multiple Choice). This is not surprising as it is both versatile and simple to use. Feedback from many content authors suggests that they most often use this feature for testing and self-assessment purposes.

Yet, this template has the potential to go far beyond these classic functions and deliver a highly interactive and inspiring learning simulation. Leveraging the feedback built into the template is the key to unlocking this ability. Using feedback you can recreate the interaction so that instead of presenting a customer situation and asking the user to give the correct answer, you can steer the user to think about what the next action or communication could be.

To illustrate, let’s apply this “question” approach in which you ask the users to identify questions against a theme, such as sales process training. You can build this simple simulation utilising the Classic MC:

Simulation 1:

Step1. Start with an image of a customer, use the lead field to explain the situation. In this example it could be about what the customer is asking for.

Step 2. The question at the top of the template could be “How will you respond?”

Step 3. The choices that you offer the user could present a variety of descriptions. The “correct” answer would probably be a question designed to further clarify the customer’s needs.

Step 4. Using the feedback you can nurture the user towards the right answer or use feedback to explain to the user the implications of the corresponding choice.

Simulation 2:

Step 5. Next page could be a similar exercise but one step further in the sales process and so forth.

By conveying your message this way you have actually made a little simulation without one line of programming. The user has experienced a piece of interactive training that is inspiring, asks him to participate and use their intellect. That’s not a bad payback from just one interactive template. This approach to writing content can be applied to any content you are creating.
